ಮಣದಷ್ಟು ಮಾತಿಗಿಂತ ಕಣದಷ್ಟು ಕೆಲಸ ಲೇಸು.

ಮಣ ಅಂದರೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ನಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ತೂಕದ ಒಂದು ಅಳತೆ. ಇದು ಸುಮಾರು ನಲವತ್ತು ಸೇರಿನಷ್ಟು ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಕಣ ಅಂದರೆ ಪದಾರ್ಥವೊಂದರ ತೀರಾ ಸಣ್ಣ ಚೂರು ಅಥವಾ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾದ ಅಂಶ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ. ‌ಕೆಲವರು ತಾನು ಹಾಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು  ಬಡಾಯಿ ಕೊಚ್ಚುತ್ತಾ ಮಾತಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಮಹಲು‌ ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದರಿಂದ ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಏನೂ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವಿಲ್ಲ, ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವಿರಲಿ ಬೇಡದೆ ಇರುವ ಮಾತು ಕೇಳಿದ ಬೇಸರ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ ಅಷ್ಟೇ. ಇದರ ಬದಲು ಒಂದೇ ಒಂದು ಕಣದಷ್ಟು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರೂ ಯಾರಿಗಾದರೂ ತುಸು ಅನುಕೂಲವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಕೆಲಸವೂ ತುಸು ಮುಂದೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಎಚ್ಚರಿಸುವುದು ಏನೆಂದರೆ ‘ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ವಿಪರೀತ ಮಾತಾಡಬೇಡ, ಅಥವಾ ಹಾಳುಹರಟೆ ಹೊಡೆಯಬೇಡ. ಅದರ ಬದಲು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪವಾದರೂ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡು’ ಎಂದು. 

Kannada proverb – Manadashtu maathigintha kanadashtu kelasa lesu(One iota of work is better than 40 litres of words).

This kannada proverb stresses the importance of work when compared to mere words. One can talk and talk and build castles in air but taking action is altogether a different thing. Words lose their value if they are not backed up by action. Therefore we should refrain from just talking big. No one is benefitted by mere words, it is a waste of energy for the person who talks and it does not help any one else in any way. We need to understand the wisdom behind this proverb and act more, and definitely talk less.
