ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಹಾಳೂರಿಗುಳಿದವನೇ ಗೌಡ‌.‌

ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರು ಆಗಾಗ ಬಳಸುವ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಇದು‌. ಗೌಡ( ಗ್ರಾಮ ವೃದ್ಧ ಪದವು ‌ಸುಲಭೀಕರಣಗೊಂಡು ಜನರ ಬಾಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೌಡ ಆಗಿದೆ).  ಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನ, ಆಸ್ತಿಪಾಸ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಯಜಮಾನಿಕೆ ಇರುವಂತಹ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೇ ಗೌಡ‌‌. ಜನರಿದ್ದರೆ ಊರಿಗೆ ನೆಲೆ, ಜನರಿದ್ದರೆ ಗೌಡನಿಗೆ ಬೆಲೆ.‌ ಆದರೆ ಯಾವುದೋ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಜನರೆಲ್ಲ ಬೇರೆ ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೊರಟುಹೋಗಿ  ಆ ಊರು ಹಾಳೂರಾದರೆ? ಆಗ ಯಾವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಆ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೋ, ಅವನೇ ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಾನು ಗೌಡ ಎಂದು ಕರೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು! ಯಾಕೆಂದರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಮಾಡಲು ತೆಗಳಲು  ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರೂ  ಜನವೇ ಇರುವದಿಲ್ಲ! ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧಾಳುಗಳೇ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಸ್ಪರ್ಧೆ, ಸಮರ್ಥ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳೇ ಇಲ್ಲದ ತರಗತಿ, ಅಂತೆಯೇ ವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತರೇ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಊರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಇರುವ ಅರೆವಿದ್ಯಾವಂತ…ಇಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ತುಸುವೇ ಬುದ್ಧಿವಂತರು ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವರು ತಾವೇ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ಎಂದು ಮೆರೆಯುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭ ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಂತಹುದನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸಿದ ಜನ ಮೇಲ್ಕಂಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತನ್ನು  ಹೀಗೆ ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾರೆ – ‘ಅಯ್ಯೋ ಬಿಡಪ್ಪ. ಹಾಳೂರಿಗುಳಿದವನೇ ಗೌಡ ಅಂದ್ಹಂಗೆ’.  ಸ್ವಾರಸ್ಯಕರವಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ವಾ?

Kannada proverb – Haloorigulidavane gouda. ( The  one who stays back in the deserted village, calls himself the chief!).

Gouda, after from being the name of a caste, is also the title or name of the position of a powerful man, in the villages of Kannada speaking community. One needs certain amount of money, lands and superior position to be called a Gouda. But in a deserted village even a penny less, pauper man can call himself a Gouda. But, there is no meaning in holding this title there. Similarly,  in a competition where there are no enough competitors or in a work place where there are no high quality personnel, even an average person may boast himself to be the best because there is no actual, worthy competition to question him. In such cases the above proverb is used.
