ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಆನೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಅರೆಕಾಸಿನ ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆ. 

ಕಿವಿಗೆ ಇಂಪಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಸುವ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಬಹು ಜನಪ್ರಿಯವೂ ಹೌದು. ಬೇಡಿಕೆ ತುಂಬ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿದ್ದು ಪೂರೈಕೆ ತೀರಾ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿರುವ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶವೊಂದನ್ನು ಈ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಾಣ್ಣುಡಿ ತುಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಗುಡಾಣದಂತಿರುವ ಆನೆಯ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ತುಂಬಬೇಕೆಂದರೆ ಭಾರೀ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಹಾರ ಬೇಕು. ಅರೆಕಾಸಿಗೆ ಕೊಂಡಂತಹ ಅರ್ಧಲೋಟ ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆ ಆನೆಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ!? 

ನಮ್ಮ‌ ಜೀವನದ ಕೆಲವು ದೈನಂದಿನ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತಿನ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತತೆಯನ್ನು  ಗಮನಿಸಬಹುದು. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ, ‘ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಎಷ್ಟು ಮೆಟ್ರೋ ರೈಲಿದ್ರೂ ಬೆಂಗ್ಳೂರಿನ‌ ಜನಸಂಖ್ಯೆಗೆ ಸಾಲಲ್ಲಪ್ಪ. ಆನೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಅರಕಾಸಿನ ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆ”. ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ತಿನ್ನುವ ಹತ್ತು ಬಾಯಿಗಳಿದ್ದು ದುಡಿಯುವ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಆದಾಗಲೂ ಈ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತನ್ನು ಜನ ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ – ” ಪಾಪ, ಅವ್ನು ದುಡಿದಿದ್ದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆನೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೆ ಅರೆಕಾಸಿನ ಮಜ್ಜಿಗೆ ಆಯ್ತು”. 

ಮಾತಿನ ಚಂದವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವ ಇಂತಹ ಗಾದೆಮಾತುಗಳು ಕನ್ನಡದ ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ಆಸ್ತಿ.‌ ಅಲ್ಲವೆ?

Kannada proverb : Aane hottege arekaasina majjige ( Half a penny worth of buttermilk for the belly of elephant).

Elephant is a huge animal with a very large belly, therefore it needs equally huge amount of food. Therefore if it is given half a penny worth of buttermilk (i.e. just half a glass) it is not sufficient at all. And also, buttermilk is not a filling kind of food. So, it is almost a joke if we offer half a penny worth of buttermilk to the pachyderm. 

This interesting proverb of Kannada is used in situations where supply is pathetically less when compared to the demand. For example, adding just one or two buses or trains for commuting in a very hugely populated city, only one bread winner being there to feed a family of 15 members, a very small box of sweets being provided for a group of twenty five dayssweet toothed kids…so on and so forth. In such incidents of unproportionate demand and supply, this proverb is used by Kannada speaking people.
