ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು –  ಬೆಕ್ಕಿಗೆ ಚೆಲ್ಲಾಟ, ಇಲಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಣ ಸಂಕಟ.

ಕೆಲವು ಸಂದರ್ಭಗಳಿರುತ್ತವೆ‌‌. ಅಪಹರಣಕಾರರು ತಾವು ಹಿಡಿದಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ ಒತ್ತೆಯಾಳುಗಳನ್ನು, ಶತ್ರು ದೇಶದ ಸೈನಿಕರನ್ನು ಸೆರೆ ಹಿಡಿದ ಸೈನ್ಯಾಧಿಕಾರಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಸೆರೆಯಾಳುಗಳನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಕ್ರಮವು ಮೇಲೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಬಹುದು.‌ ಬೆಕ್ಕು ಇಲಿಯನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನುವ ಮೊದಲು ಚಿನ್ನಾಟ, ಚೆಲ್ಲಾಟ ಆಡಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಇಲಿಗೆ ತನಗೆ ಸಾವು ಕಾದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಷಣವೂ  ಆ ಪಾಪದ ಜೀವಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಾಣವೇ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಬಂದ ಹಾಗೆ ಆಗುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. 

Kannada proverb – Bekkige chellata, ilige praana Sankata( It is a light hearted game for the cat but it is the death pain for the rat).

There are some situations in life where the oppressor will have a happy game but the oppressed suffer unbearable pain which is equivalent to death. The blackmailing, kidnapping and treatment of prisoners of war are examples to this situation. The Kannada proverb in the present context gives a very picturesque example of a cat playfully chasing the rat to death.
