ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ತಾನು ಕಳ್ಳ, ಪರರ ನಂಬ.

ಕನ್ನಡಿಗರ ಸಂಭಾಷಣೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆಗಾಗ ಕೇಳಿಬರುವ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಇದು‌.  ಜನರು ಬಹಳ ಸಲ ತಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಅಥವಾ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಗುಣವನ್ನು, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೀರುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ(projection). ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ,  ತಾವು ಸಮಯಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆಗೆ ತುಂಬ ಮಹತ್ವ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಅಂದರೆ ಬೇರೆಯವರು ಸಹ ಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುವುದು, ಭಿಕ್ಷುಕರಿಗೆ ಹಣ ಕೊಡಬಾರದು ಎಂದು ತಾವು ಭಾವಿಸುವಂತೆ ಬೇರೆಯವರೂ ಭಾವಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯುವುದು, ತಾವು ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಕಲು ಮಾಡಿ ತೇರ್ಗಡೆ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಬೇರೆಯವರು ಸಹ ಹಾಗೇ ತೇರ್ಗಡೆ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸುವುದು….ಹೀಗೆ.‌ ಇದೇ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳ್ಳರು ( ವಸ್ತುಗಳ್ಳರು ಅಥವಾ ಕೆಲಸಗಳ್ಳರು) ಬೇರೆಯವರು ಸಹ ತಮ್ಮಂತೆ ಕಳ್ಳ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಹೊಂದಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿ ಯಾರನ್ನೂ ನಂಬುವುದಿಲ್ಲ! ಅದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಚಾಲ್ತಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿರಬೇಕು, ‘ತಾನು ಕಳ್ಳ, ಪರರ ನಂಬ’. ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಸ್ವಭಾವದ ಬಗೆಗಿನ ಒಂದು ಸತ್ಯ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದೆಯಲ್ಲವೇ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಈ ನುಡಿ?

Human beings have a curious quality of projecting the qualities they have onto others. For example a student who copies in the examination might project this  characteristic in him onto his classmate, and a corrupt official may project his habit of corruption onto his colleague. Likewise a theif may not trust others because he himself is not trustworthy due to his stealing nature. Therefore, we can say that this proverb has pointed out one basic nature of human beings. Isn’t it?
