ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು –  ಆನೆ ಕದ್ದರೂ ಕಳ್ಳ, ಅಡಿಕೆ ಕದ್ದರೂ ಕಳ್ಳ.

ಒಂದು ಗಂಭೀರವಾದ ಜೀವನವಿವೇಕವನ್ನು ತುಂಬ ಚಿತ್ರಕವಾಗಿ, ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಿದಂತೆ ಹೇಳುವ ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತಿದು.‌ ಅಡಿಕೆಯಂತಹ ಪುಟಾಣಿ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಕದ್ದರೂ, ಆನೆಯಂತಹ ಬಹು ದೊಡ್ಡಗಾತ್ರದ ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಕದ್ದರೂ ಕಳ್ಳತನ ಕಳ್ಳತನವೇ ತಾನೇ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ತಾನು ಸಂಬಳ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಂತಹ ಉದ್ಯೋಗದ ವಿಷಯ ಬಂದಾಗ, ತನ್ನ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯ ತಾನು‌ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ರೂಪಾಯಿ ‌ಲಂಚ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರೂ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಾಚಾರವೇ, ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂಪಾಯಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡರೂ  ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಾಚಾರವೇ. ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಈ‌ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಕಲಿಸುವ ಪಾಠವೇನೆಂದರೆ‌ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದರಿಂದ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ದೂರವಿರಬೇಕು. ‘ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ  ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದು,  ತುಂಬ ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದು’ ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯತ್ಯಾಸವು ನ್ಯಾಯದೇವಿಯ‌  ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ‌

Kannada proverb- Aane kaddaruu kalla, adike kaddaruu kalla ( Whether you steal an eleplant or an areca nut you are a still a thief ). 

This proverb teaches a very wise life lesson. When one is doing something bad, the quantity or amount of ‘bad’ does not matter! Whether he did a bad thing to a large extent or a small extent, he is still known as a bad person. You will certainly be called a thief if you steal either a big thing like an elephant or a tiny thing like an areca nut. Here action matters, not the size. Therefore we need to stay away totally from the bad facets of life like theft, corruption and misappropriation etc.
