ಅತ್ತೆಗೆ ಮೀಸೆ ಬಂದ್ರೆ ಚಿಕ್ಕಪ್ಪಾ ಅನ್ಬಹುದು

ತಮಾಷೆಯಾಗಿ ಕೇಳಿಸುವುದಾದರೂ ತುಂಬ ಅರ್ಥಗರ್ಭಿತವಾದ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತಿದು. ಅತ್ತೆಗೆ ಮೀಸೆ ಬರುವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಚಿಕ್ಕಪ್ಪ ಅಂತ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುವುದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಆಗದ ಹೋಗದ ಕೆಲಸಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತಾಡಿದರೆ ಅಥವಾ ಪಾಲಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗದ ವಾಗ್ದಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಈ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ನೂರು ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಕೂಡ ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಲಾಗದವನು ತಾನು ಒಂದು ಲಕ್ಷ ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಉಡುಗೊರೆ ಕೊಡುವ ಮಾತಾಡಿದಾಗ ಅಥವಾ ಒಂದು ಹಾಡೂ ಬರದೆ ಇದ್ದವನು ಸಂಗೀತ ಕಛೇರಿ ಮಾಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದಾಗ ಜನರು ಮೇಲಿನ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ನಗೆಯಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Kannada proverb – Aththege meese bandre chikkappa anbahudu (If Aunt gets mustache she may be addressed as Uncle).

This is a funny sounding proverb, but carries a lot of meaning. Aunt can never get mustache and she can never be addressed as Uncle. So when someone gives tall promises or builds castles in air this proverb is remembered. For example if a man who cannot earn even hundred rupees boasts of gifting a lakh rupees, or a person who cannot sing even one song promises to give a full length music concert, people tease such persons with the above proverb.
