ಹೌದಪ್ಪನ ಚಾವಡೀಲಿ ಹೌದಪ್ಪ, ಅಲ್ಲಪ್ಪನ ಚಾವಡೀಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಪ್ಪ.

ಕೆಲವು ಜನರಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಂತ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ, ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ ಅನ್ನುವುದೇ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಯಾರು ಏನು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ಹೌದು, ಹೌದು ಅನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತುಸು ಮುಂಚೆ ತಾವು ಹೌದು ಎಂದು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಎರಡು ಗಳಿಗೆಯ ನಂತರ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರು ಅಲ್ಲ ಅಂದೊಡನೆ ಇವರೂ ಸಹ ಅಲ್ಲ ಅನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ! ಇಂಥವರು ಬೌದ್ಧಿಕವಾಗಿ ಚಿಂತನ-ಮಂಥನ ನಡೆಸುವ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೋಮಾರಿತನದಿಂದ ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡುವರೋ, ಅಥವಾ ಎದುರಿಗೆ ಇರುವವರನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿ ಅವರಿಂದ ತಮಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಹೀಗೆ ವರ್ತಿಸುವರೋ ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು. ಆದರೆ ಇಂಥವರನ್ನು ಯಾರೂ ಸಹ ಗೌರವಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವರ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪ ಬಂದರೆ ಜನರು “ಅಯ್ಯೋ, ಅವರಾ, ಬಿಡ್ರೀ. ಹೌದಪ್ಪನ ಚಾವಡೀಲಿ ಹೌದಪ್ಪ, ಅಲ್ಲಪ್ಪನ ಚಾವಡೀಲಿ ಅಲ್ಲಪ್ಪ. ಅಂಥವರ ಹತ್ರ ಏನು ಮಾತು!’’ ಎಂದು ಬೇಸರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ಹೀಗೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಆಸ್ಪದ ಕೊಡದೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಾದರೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಂತ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಹೊಂದಿರಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಗಾಳಿಕೋಳಿಗಳಂತೆ ಹಾಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಹೀಗೊಮ್ಮೆ ಮಾತಾಡಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಗೌರವ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು. ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತುಗಳು ಲೋಕವಿವೇಕವನ್ನು ಕಲಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಇದೊಂದು ಉದಾಹರಣೆ.

There are some people who do not have an opinion or view of their own. They simply parrot others’ opinion. This is why they can say yes to something one moment and no to the same thing in the next moment! They may be doing this either by intellectual laziness or for some selfish need of theirs. Nevertheless such people do not command respect and no one will trust them in serious matters of life. Therefore we need to stay away from this derogatory mindset. This is the way our ancient Kannnda proverbs teach us the much needed life lessons.
