ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಗಂಡು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ರೆ ಅನ್ನ ಮರೀಬೇಕು, ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ್ರೆ ಬಣ್ಣ ಮರೀಬೇಕು. 

ತುಂಬ ಜೀವನಾನುಭವ ಇರುವ ಒಂದು ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಇದು ; ಒಬ್ಬ ತಾಯಿಯ ಅನುಭವವನ್ನು ಮನೋಜ್ಞವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುವಂತಹ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು. 

ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಗಂಡು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಆಹಾರವು ತುಂಬ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಪ್ರಮಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಕು‌‌. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ತಾಯಿಯು ಎಲ್ಲರ ಊಟ-ತಿಂಡಿ ಆದ ಮೇಲೆ  ತನಗಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ದೋಸೆ/ಚಪಾತಿ/ಪೂರಿ/ಅನ್ನ ಮುಂತಾದ ಆಹಾರ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ತೋಳದಂತಹ ಹಸಿವುಳ್ಳ ತನ್ಮ ಹದಿಹರೆಯದ ಮಗನಿಗೆ ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾಗಿ‌ ಬರಬಹುದು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಗಳಿದ್ದಾಳೆ  ಅಂದರೆ ತಾಯಿಯ ಒಳ್ಳೊಳ್ಳೆ ಸೀರೆ, ಒಡವೆ, ಮುಖಾಲಂಕಾರ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳನ್ನು ತುಂಬ ಇಷ್ಟಪಟ್ಟು ಬಳಸಲಾರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.  ಏಕೆಂದರೆ, ಹದಿಹರೆಯದ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ತಮ್ಮನ್ನು ತಾವು ಎಷ್ಟು ಸಿಂಗರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರೂ ಸಾಲದು! ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ತಾಯಿಯ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಕಪಾಟು ಮತ್ತು ಅಲಂಕಾರ ಪುಟ್ಟಿಕೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅವರು ಏಕಸ್ವಾಮ್ಯ ಸ್ಥಾಪಿಸಿಬಿಡುತ್ತಾರೆ. 

ಅಂದರೆ, ಗಂಡು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿರುವ ತಾಯಿ ಅನ್ನವನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಹೆಣ್ಣುಮಕ್ಕಳಿರುವ ತಾಯಿ ಬಣ್ಣ( ಅಲಂಕಾರ) ವನ್ನು ಮರೆತುಬಿಡಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ!  

ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಈ ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತನ್ಬು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೆ. 

Kannada proverb – Gandu  huttidre anna mareebeku, hennu huttidre banna  mareebeku( If a boy is born forget your food, if a girl is born forget your dress and make-up). 

This proverb expresses the experience of a mother of teenage sons and daughters. 

Growing up boys need a lot of food. Their harmone driven bodies make them hog food like a hound! Therefore a mother might end up giving the son food that she  had marked for herself. Similarly, growing up girls are very obsessed about their looks. They keep on taking and trying things from their mother’s wardrobe and make up kit. 

This is the reason why a mother has to forget about her food if she has a son and forget about her dress and make up if she  has a daughter. 

This proverb is based on the real life experience of a mother. Isn’t it?
