ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಕೊಟ್ಟೋನ್ ಕೋಡಂಗಿ, ಈಸ್ಕೊಂಡೋನ್ ಈರ್ಬದ್ರ.

ವ್ಯವಹಾರ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ  ಮತ್ತು ಕೆಲವೊಮ್ಮೆ ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಗಳಲ್ಲೂ ಕೂಡ ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಸಲ್ಲುವ  ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಇದು. ಅಪ್ರಾಮಾಣಿಕ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಾಲ ಕೊಟ್ಟು, ತಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ ಬಾಡಿಗೆಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟು, ಅಥವಾ ದುಬಾರಿ ಬಟ್ಟೆ, ಒಡವೆ, ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಅದನ್ನು‌  ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶ ಬಂದಾಗ  ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತನ್ನು ಬಳಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪ್ರೀತಿ, ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ, ನಂಬಿಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅಪಾತ್ರರ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಟ್ಟಾಗಲೂ ಹೀಗೆ ಆಗಬಹುದು‌. ಆಗ ಕೊಟ್ಟವನು ಬಯಲಾಟದ ಕೋಡಂಗಿ‌ ವೇಷದಂತೆ ಮೂರ್ಖನಾಗಿ, ಹಾಸ್ಯಾಸ್ಪದವಾಗಿ ಕಂಡರೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡವನು ದಕ್ಷಯಾಗ ಕಥೆಯ ಶಿವಕುಂತಲ ಜನ್ಯ ವೀರಭದ್ರನಂತೆ ಅಪಾರ ಸಿಟ್ಟಿನ, ಕಂಡಕಂಡದ್ದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ನಾಶ ಮಾಡುವ, ಅಸಡಾಬಸಡಾ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಭಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಬಹಳ ಬೇಸರ ತರುವ ಸನ್ನಿವೇಶಗಳನ್ನು ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ನಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ.

Kannada proverb – Kottonu kodangi eeskobdonu eerbadhra (The one who gave is a kodangi the one who took is Eerabadra. Kodangi = Kannada word for the comic character in village dance drama.

Eerabadra = The angry and reckless character born out of furious Lord Shiva’s hair in Dakshabrahma story).

Sometimes in life we give money, things, love and affection to undeserving people. The taker of these does not give it back to us.This makes the whole experience very bitter. In such dismal circumstances Kannada speaking people remember this proverb. There is an undertone of anger and helplessness in this proverb.
