ಸಾವಿರ ಉಳಿ ಪೆಟ್ಟು, ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ತಾರ

ಕಲ್ಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ರ ಅಥವಾ ಶಿಲ್ಪ ಮೂಡಿಸುವುದೆಂದರೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾದ ಮಾತಲ್ಲ. ಚಿತ್ರಕಾರ ಅಥವಾ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿಯು ಉಳಿ, ಚಾಣಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಸಾವಿರಾರು ಪೆಟ್ಟು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಅನೇಕ ದಿನ ತಾಳ್ಮೆಯಿಂದ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. ಇನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಕೋನದಿಂದ ನೋಡಿದರೂ ಸರ್ವೇಸಾಧಾರಣವಾದ ಕಲ್ಲು ಒಂದು ಚಿತ್ರ ಅಥವಾ ಶಿಲ್ಪ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಸಾವಿರ ಪೆಟ್ಟುಗಳನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಬೇಕು. ನಮ್ಮ ಗ್ರಾಮಸ್ಥರ ಅನುಭವದ ಖಜಾನೆಯಿಂದ ಮೂಡಿ ಬಂದಿರುವ ಈ ಮಾತು, ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುವುದು ಎಂತಹ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮ ಮತ್ತು ತಾಳ್ಮೆ ಬೇಡುವ ಕೆಲಸ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲದೆ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಜೀವನವನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಪೆಟ್ಟುಗಳನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬುದೂ ಸಹ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತಿನ ಇಂಗಿತವಾಗಿದೆ.

who draws on a stone has to give thousand and more hits to make it a beautiful painting or idol worthy of worship. It is really a hard work. Even from a stone’s point of view it has to bear thousand beatings to become a beautiful work of art. This not only applies to the field of art but also to real life. If you want your life to be a master piece, you need to bear a thousand difficulties and stay unperturbed and believe in goodness of life. This is a proverb which depicts the great wisdom of our ancestors.
