ಆಫ್ರಿಕಾದ ಒಂದು ಗಾದೆ ಮಾತಿನ ಕನ್ನಡ ಅನುವಾದ – ಯುವಕರು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಆದರೆ ರಸ್ತೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವುದು ಹಿರಿಯರಿಗೆ.

ಯೌವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುರುಪು, ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಹೆಚ್ಚು, ಆದರೆ ತಾಳ್ಮೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ, ಏನು ಮಾಡಿದರೂ ಅವಸರವಸರವಾಗಿ, ದುಡುಕು, ರಭಸಗಳಿಂದ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ತೊಡಗುವುದು ಯುವಕ-ಯುವತಿಯರ ಸ್ವಭಾವವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನೊಂದು ಬೆಂದು ಕಷ್ಟ-ಸುಖ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಪ್ರಬುದ್ಧ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯವಹರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ; ಯಾವ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಬೇಕು, ಯಾವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಬಾರದು ಎಂಬುದು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಾಗಿ,  ಹಿರಿಯರ ರಸ್ತೆಯ ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಕಿರಿಯರು ಕಲಿತರೆ, ಹಾಗೂ ಯುವಕರ ಹುರುಪು ಉತ್ಸಾಹಗಳನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಅನುಭವದ ಮುಖೇನ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಸರಿದಾರಿಗೆ ಹಚ್ಚಿದರೆ ಬದುಕು ಸುಂದರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ‌.

Kannada proverb – Yuvakaru hechchu vegavaagi nadeyuththare, Aadare rasthe goththiruvudu hiriyarige(The youth walk faster, but it is the elderly who know the road).

This is an African proverb which is translated to Kannada by this writer, for the great wisdom which it contains. Yes, youth do walk very fast because of the energy and enthusiasm they possess. But it is also true that the youth lack the knowledge of roads due to their inexperience. On the contrary, the elderly may not have as much energy the youth have, but they have more knowledge about the right roads. Both of them will benefit if they share their positive qualities with each other. Isn’t it?
