ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು –  ಅರ್ಧ ಕಲಿತವನ ಅಬ್ಬರ ಹೆಚ್ಚು.

ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳಾದವರು ಅಬ್ಬರ ಮಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.‌ ‘ತಮಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟು ಗೊತ್ತು, ಅಷ್ಟು ಗೊತ್ತು, ತಾವು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತ ಮೇಲು’ ಎಂದು ಬೀಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.‌ ಆದರೆ ಯಾವುದಾದರೊಂದು ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಲಿತವರು ತಾವು ಬಹಳ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಲಿತುಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂದು ಅಬ್ಬರ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಜನರ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ, ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಾ ಇರಬೇಕೇ ಹೊರತು ಅನಗತ್ಯ ಕಡೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ತಾನೇ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು‌.

Kannada proverb – Ardha kalithavana abbara hechchu (One who knows a little is the one who is very loud). The wise amongst are not noisy. They do not brag about themselves or about their knowledge. But people who know a little behave like know alls, which is very irritating for the people around them. So we need to keep our mouths shut until and unless we are invited to speak. The fools talk too much and betray the shallowness in them. Therefore this proverb gives us good advice when it comes to our behavior in the field of knowledge.
