ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ದಾನ ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ಮರೆಯಬೇಕು, ಸಾಲ ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ಬರೆಯಬೇಕು.

ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನೊಂದುಬೆಂದು ಕಷ್ಟ ಸುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿ ಆ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ಜೀವನದ ಸಾರವನ್ನು ಗಾದೆಮಾತುಗಳೆಂಬ ಉಡುಗೊರೆಯಾಗಿ ನಮಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಂತಹ ಒಂದು ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ನಿಧಿ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು.

ನೋಡಿ, ನಾವು ಯಾರಿಗಾದರೂ ಒಂದು ವಸ್ತುವನ್ನು ಅಥವಾ ಒಂದಷ್ಟು ಹಣವನ್ನು ದಾನ ಎಂದು ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ‘ ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ, ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ’ ಎಂದು ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಅಗತ್ಯ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಶುಭಾಕಾಂಕ್ಷೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಹಾಯ ಮನೋಭಾವದಿಂದ ದಾನ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಅದನ್ನು ಅಲ್ಲಿಗೇ ಮರೆತುಬಿಡಬೇಕು.‌ ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಸಾಲವಾಗಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ಬರೆದಿಡಬೇಕು, ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ, ಏನು ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ, ಎಷ್ಟು ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ, ಯಾವಾಗ ಕೊಟ್ಟೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಮರೆತು ಹೋಗಿ‌ ನಾವು ಅದನ್ನು ವಾಪಸ್ ಕೇಳುವುದಕ್ಕೇ ಸಾಧ್ಯ ಆಗದೆ ಹೋಗಬಹುದು. ನಮ್ಮಿಂದ ಸಾಲ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡವರು ಮರಳಿ ಕೊಡಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ನೆನಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆಂದು ಖಾತ್ರಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಲಾಗದು. ಹೀಗಾಗಿ ನಾವು ಸಾಲ ಕೊಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಬರೆದು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು‌, ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೋದರೆ ನಷ್ಟ ಅನುಭವಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ.

ಜನರ ವರ್ತನೆಯನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಅಳೆದು ತೂಗಿ ನಮ್ಮ‌ ಹಿರಿಯರು ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ‌ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದರ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಬೇಕು. 

Kannada proverb : Dana kottaddannu mareyabeku, saala kottaddannu bareyabeku ( We should forget what we gave in charity, but we should write down what we gave as loan).

This proverb is an essence of deep life experience of our ancestors. If we give something in charity we do good to forget it. But if we give some thing or money as loan to anyone, better we write it down, lest we forget the details. It is a bitter truth that the borrower may not be too keen on returning the loan on time. Therefore, sometimes it becomes lender’s burden to remember the details of the loan.  It is needless to say that this proverb serves as a great advice of wisdom to lead our lives in a satisfactory manner.
