ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು –  ಹಿತ್ತಲ ಗಿಡ ಮದ್ದಲ್ಲ.‌

ಕನ್ನಡದ ಅತಿ ಜನಪ್ರಿಯ ಗಾದೆಮಾತುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದೂ ಒಂದು‌. ಮೂರೇ ಪದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಲೋಕಸತ್ಯವೊಂದನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವ ನುಡಿಸಿರಿ ಇದು.  ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿತ್ತಲಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಒಂದು  ಮದ್ದು( ಔಷಧೀಯ ಗಿಡ) ನಮ್ಮ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿರುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ! ಬೇರೆಯವರು ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಮೆಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಆಗ ನಮಗೇ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆ, ‘ಅಯ್ಯೋ ಇಷ್ಟು ದಿನ ಇದು ಇದ್ದದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮ ಅರಿವಿಗೆ ಬಂದೇ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲ!’ ಅಂತ. ಅತಿಪರಿಚಿತತೆ ತರುವ ತಿರಸ್ಕಾರವು ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಿರಬಹುದು.‌ ಗಿಡಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಅಲ್ಲ, ನಾವು ಮನುಷ್ಯರ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲೂ ಹೀಗೇ ವರ್ತಿಸುತ್ತವೆ. ನಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆಯೇ,  ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲೇ ಜೀವಿಸುವವರ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ, ಸದ್ಗುಣಗಳ ಮಹತ್ತು, ಬೃಹತ್ತುಗಳಿಗೆ ನಾವು ಕುರುಡರಾಗಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ! ಇನ್ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಈ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದಾಗ ಸೋಜಿಗ ಪಡುತ್ತೇವೆ! 

ಇದೇ ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿಪರ್ಯಾಸ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಗಾದೆಯು ಹೇಳುವಂತಹ  ಒಂದು ಲೋಕಸತ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ.

Kannada proverb : Hiththala gida maddalla( The plant in our in backyard is not a medicine).

We humans have a very peculiar quality. If we have a great medicinal plant in our backyard or a genius in our home we seldom notice it! May be this is because of the old adage ‘familiarity breeds contempt’. Me miss the best which is in our own surroundings and search for it elsewhere. Sometimes it needs a stranger to point it to us and bring it to our notice! Therefore, this proverb, which is a very popular one in Kannada language, brings out this paradoxical truth of our lives very effectively! Isn’t it?
