ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಕಾಯಿದ್ದ ಮರಕ್ಕೇ ಕಲ್ಲು ಬೀಳೋದು. 

ತುಂಬ ಕಷ್ಟ ಸುಖ ಕಂಡ ಹಿರಿಯರು ತಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನಾನುಭವವನ್ನು ಭಟ್ಟಿ ಇಳಿಸಿದ ಗಾದೆಮಾತಿದು. ಹಣ್ಣಿನ ತೋಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಮರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣ್ಣು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಬಿಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತದೆಯೋ ಜನ  ಆ ಮರಕ್ಕೆ ತಾನೇ ಕಲ್ಲು ಹೊಡೆಯುವುದು? ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಯಾವ ಮನುಷ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ( ಪ್ರತಿಭೆ, ಹಣ, ಕಾರ್ಯಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ….ಇಂಥದ್ದು) ಇರುತ್ತದೋ ಅಂಥವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೇರೆಯವರ ಹಕ್ಕೊತ್ತಾಯ ಹೆಚ್ಚು.  ಅಸೂಯೆಯ ಮಾತುಗಳ ಪ್ರಹಾರ, ಕೆಲಸದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೆಲಸ, ಆದೇಶದ ಮೇಲೆ ಆದೇಶ…ಹೀಗೆ ಅನೇಕ ಹೊಡೆತಗಳ ಪರಂಪರೆಗೆ ಅವರು ಒಳಗಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ‌. ಹೀಗೆ ಕಷ್ಟ ಪಟ್ಟವರು ನೊಂದುಕೊಂಡಾಗ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಮಾಧಾನಿಸಲು ಅವರ ಹಿತೈಷಿಗಳು, ಆತ್ಮೀಯರು ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತನ್ನು ಹೇಳುವುದು ರೂಢಿ‌.

Kannada proverb – Kaayi idda marakke..kallu beelodu ( Only the tree with fruits get stoned).

This proverb betrays a shocking but natural human behavior. When people go to an orchard or when they steal fruits from someone’s garden, to which tree they will pelt stones? Of course it is the tree filled with fruits, they won’t stone a barren tree, isn’t it? Just like that, a resourceful, good natured person is sqeezed and troubled to no end, because people want to get their work done. They seldom think of the person’s plight they are troubling. The ‘unfortunate’ person is punished for his resourcefulness! This is a bitter truth in human society. Thus the proverb helps us to learn about the people’s general behavior in the society. The english proverb ‘Nobody kicks a dead dog’ is akin to this.
