ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು‌- ಉತ್ತಮ ಹೊಲ‌ ಮಧ್ಯಮ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ಕನಿಷ್ಠ ಚಾಕರಿ.

ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ತನ್ನ ಜೀವನೋಪಾಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಯಾವುದೋ ಒಂದು ವೃತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲೇಬೇಕಲ್ಲವೆ? ನಮ್ಮ ಗ್ರಾಮೀಣ ಜನಪದರು ಇಂತಹ ವೃತ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದು ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಉತ್ತಮ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಆದ ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಸ್ವಂತ ಹೊಲದಲ್ಲಿ ತನಗೆ ತಾನೇ ಒಡೆಯನಾಗಿ‌ ದುಡಿಯುವುದು ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಉತ್ತಮ,  ತಕ್ಕಮಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಾಯತ್ತತೆಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದರೂ ಲಾಭ – ನಷ್ಟಗಳ ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳಿಸುವ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರ ವೃತ್ತಿ ಮಧ್ಯಮ, ಆದರೆ ತನ್ನ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಪಾಡಿಗಾಗಿ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬರ ಮರ್ಜಿ ಕಾಯಬೇಕಾದ ಚಾಕರಿಯು ವೃತ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬ ಅಧಮ ಎಂಬ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಈ ಹಿರಿಯರು. ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಆತ್ಮಗೌರವಗಳು ಎಷ್ಟು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸಿದಾಗ ಹಿರಿಯರ ಈ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ-ಹೇಳಿಕೆ ನಿಜ ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೆ.‌ ಅಲ್ಲವೆ?

Kannada proverb – Uththama hola, madhyama vyapara, kanishta chakari (Agriculture is the best, business is of medium value, but being a servant is the worst).

Every man needs an occupation for his livelihood. This being said, our wise ancestors have thought about which occupation is the best for a person. When we think of human dignity and autonomy, the profession of agriculture where you are your own boss is the best. Next comes the business profession, where you have some amount of autonomy about the way you work,  but you have to be in the web of profit and loss, all the time.  Therefore this profession is considered as having medium value. But, the occupation of a servant is considered as the worst because it is all about taking orders and having someone as your boss all the time. A servant is not a free person. Therefore this occupation is not considered as having high value.
