ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ವನವೆಲ್ಲ‌ ಸಿರಿಗಂಧವ? 

ಸಿರಿಗಂಧ( ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧ) ಎಂಬುದು‌ ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲ ಗೊತ್ತಿರುವಂತೆ ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದಲ್ಲಿ (ಹಾಗೂ ಒಟ್ಟು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಏಷ್ಯಾದ ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ) ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಒಂದು ವಿಶೇಷವಾದ ಮರ. ಇದರ ಚಿರಂತನ ಸುಗಂಧವು ಶತಶತಮಾನಗಳಿಂದ ಜಗತ್ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾಗಿದೆ.  ನಮ್ಮ ಮೈಸೂರನ್ನು ಗಂಧದ ಬೀಡು ಅನ್ನುತ್ತಾರಲ್ಲವೆ? ಆದರೆ ಕಾಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲ ಮರಗಳೂ ಶ್ರೀಗಂಧವಾಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಒಂದೇ ರೀತಿಯ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠತೆ ಹೊಂದಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಲೋಹಗಳೂ ಚಿನ್ನವಲ್ಲ. ಎಲ್ಲ ಹರಳುಗಳೂ ವಜ್ರವಲ್ಲ‌. ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮವಾದುದು ಅಪರೂಪವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ‌. ಜೀವನದ ಈ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಮೇಲಿನ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ತುಂಬ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದೆ‌.

Kannada proverb – Vanavella Srigandhava? ( Is the whole forest Sandalwood?).

We all know that, Sandalwood is one of the finest woods which has long lasting call  superb frangrace. This tree is native to some regions of South Asia including Mysore. Kanadagigas lovingly call their Mysuru as ‘Gandhada beedu’ (House of Sandal).

We also know that the whole forest is not Sandalwood. Similarly, all the human beings are not greatest. All the metals are not gold. All the stones are not diamonds. The best is rare. The above proverb expresses this deep truth of life in just two words. Isn’t it?
