ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಉಪ್ಪು ಸಿಕ್ರೆ ತುಪ್ಪದ ಚಿಂತೆ, ತುಪ್ಪ‌ ಸಿಕ್ರೆ ಕೊಪ್ಪರಿಗೆ ಚಿಂತೆ.

ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಆಸೆಗೆ ಮಿತಿ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಉಪ್ಪು ಸಿಗುವವರೆಗೂ ಅದರ ಚಿಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಅದು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣ ತುಪ್ಪದ ಚಿಂತೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಇನ್ನು ತುಪ್ಪ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿದರೆ ಅವನಿಗೆ ತೃಪ್ತಿ ಆಗುತ್ತದೆಯೇ? ಇಲ್ಲ.‌ ಮುಂದೆ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಕೊಪ್ಪರಿಗೆ ಹೊನ್ನಿನ ಚಿಂತೆ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ! ಒಟ್ಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಷ್ಟಿದ್ದರೂ ಇನ್ನಷ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ಆಸೆ ಪಡುವುದೇ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಸ್ವಭಾವ.‌ ಪುರಂದರದಾಸರು ಸಹ ‘ಇಷ್ಟು ದೊರಕಿದರೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಬೇಕೆಂಬಾಸೆ, ಅಷ್ಟು ದೊರಕಿದರೆ ಮತ್ತಿಷ್ಟರಾಸೆ’ ಎಂದು ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಈ ಸ್ವಭಾವವನ್ನು ಬಯಲಿಗೆಳೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.‌ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತನ್ನು ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಬಹುಶಃ ನಮ್ಮ ಆಸೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಮಿತಿ  ಹಾಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭ ಆಗಬಹುದು‌.

Kannada proverb : Uppu sikre thuppada chin the, tuppa sikre kopparige chinthe (If they get salt, they long for ghee and if they get ghee they long for a box full of bounty).

Most of us have  heard a saying which goes like this – ‘Man’s wants are unlimited’. Above Kannada  proverb reminds us of the same saying in an explicit way. If a man is given salt, he won’t be satisfied, he longs for ghee. And then if you give him ghee, he wants a big box full of bounty. The moral of the story is he is never ever satisfied! So, this proverb makes us understand the basic needy nature of man and it is well and good if we can curtail this greedy and needy behavior in us.
