ಆಸೆಗೆ ಮಿತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ, ಆಕಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಅಳತೆಯಿಲ್ಲ.

ಕನ್ನಡದ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಒಂದು ಒಳನೋಟ ಬೀರುತ್ತದೆ. ಆಕಾಶಕ್ಕೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಅಳತೆಯಿಲ್ಲವೋ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಆಸೆಗೆ ಮಿತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಿತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಆಸೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನನ್ನು ವಿನಾಶಗಳ ಸರಮಾಲೆಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ದುರಾಸೆ ಪಟ್ಟ ದರ‍್ಯೋಧನ, ಚಿನ್ನದ ಮೊಟ್ಟೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆಂಧು ತನ್ನ ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನ ಮೂಲವಾದ ಬಾತುಕೋಳಿಯನ್ನೇ ಕೊಂದ ರೈತ ಹಾಗೂ ತಾನು ಮುಟಿದ್ದೆಲ್ಲ ಚಿನ್ನವಾಗಬೇಕೆಂಬ ವರ ಬೇಡಿ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಅನ್ನವೂ ಚಿನ್ನವಾಗಿ ಅದನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನಲಾರದೆ ಒದ್ದಾಡಿದ ಮಿದಾಸನ ಕಥೆಗಳು ನಮಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯ ಗಂಟೆಗಳಾಗಬೇಕು. ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಅತಿಯಾಸೆಗೆ ಅಡಿಯಾಳಾಗದಂತೆ ನಾವು ಎಚ್ಚರ ವಹಿಸಬೇಕು.

Kannada proverb – Aasege mithiyilla, aakashakke alathe illa (There is no limit to desire and no measure to the sky). 

This Kannada proverb acts  as a warning when it comes to the games our mind plays on us. Too much desire in not a good thing. The greedy king Duryodhana’s gory end, the man who cut open his golden goose in vain to get all the golden eggs at once, Midas who prayed to have a golden touch and ended up having golden food which he could not eat, should serve as our lessons in this matter. Too much desire brings misery. This is why we need to keep our wants and desires in check.
