ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಸಟ್ಟುಗ ಇದ್ರೂ ಕೈ ಸುಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡ್ರು.

ಸಟ್ಟುಗ ಅಂದ್ರೆ ಮಗುಚೆಕೈ ಅಥವಾ ದೋಸೆ ಎತ್ತುವ ಸಪಾಟು ಮೂತಿಯ ಸೌಟು‌. ಇದು ಇರುವುದೇ ದೋಸೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾವಲಿಯಿಂದ ಎತ್ತುವಾಗಲೋ ಅಥವಾ ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು ಕೆದಕುವಾಗಲೋ ಕೈ ಸುಡಬಾರದು ಎಂದು. ‌ನೋಡಿ ಮತ್ತೆ, ಇದು ಇದ್ದರೂ ಹೇಗೆಹೇಗೋ ಬಿಸಿ ಕಾವಲಿಯನ್ನೋ‌ ಪಾತ್ರೆಯನ್ನೋ ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ಕೈ ಸುಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅಂಥವರಿಗೆ ಏನೆನ್ನಬೇಕು? ಮೂರ್ಖರೆನ್ನಬೇಕೋ, ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳೆನ್ನಬೇಕೋ? ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಅಪಾಯ, ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಅನುಕೂಲಕರ  ಸಂಗತಿಗಳು (ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ವಿಮೆ) ಇದ್ದರೂ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸದೆ ಅನಗತ್ಯ ಅನಾನುಕೂಲ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಾರದು ನಾವು. ಅಲ್ಲವೆ?

Kannada proverb – Sattuga idruu kai suttukondru (They burnt their hand though they had a spatular/turner).

Basically spatulars or turners are  used during frying in the kitchen, so that we do not burn our bands by touching hot food or utensil on the stove or oven. But even with spatular being available if a person burns his or her hand this action amounts to foolishness. This kitchen lesson applies to life also. When we have things  available to us which help us by reducing risk factors, for example insurance, we must use them and must not end up as fools by not using them. This proverb teaches a life lesson through a kitchen utencil. Isn’t it?
