ಕನ್ನಡ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು – ಸಾಲ ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಸ್ನೇಹ ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡಂಗೆ. 

ನಾವು ಯಾರಿಗಾದರೂ ಸಾಲ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಅವರು ಅದನ್ನು ಮರಳಿಸುವ ತನಕ ನಮ್ಮ‌ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಸಮಾಧಾನವಾಗಿರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನಾವು ಅದನ್ನು ಮರಳಿಸುವಂತೆ ಅವರ ಬಳಿ ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಕೆಲವರು ಕಾಳಜಿ, ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಗಳಿಂದ, ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವರು ಗೊಣಗಿಕೊಂಡು ಹಣವನ್ನು ಮರಳಿಸಬಹುದು, ಇನ್ನು ಕೆಲವು ಭಂಡರು ಹಣವನ್ನು ಮರಳಿಸದೆಯೂ ಇರಬಹುದು. ಆದರೆ ನಾವು ಇದೇ ಸಾಲವನ್ನು ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟೆವೆಂದರೆ ಭಾರೀ ಪೀಕಲಾಟಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿ ಹಾಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಹಣವನ್ನು ವಾಪಸ್ ಕೇಳದಿದ್ದರೆ ಹಣವನ್ನು  ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತೆ, ವಾಪಸ್ ಕೇಳಿದರೆ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನಿಗೆ ಇರಿಸುಮುರಿಸಾಗುವುದರಿಂದ ಸ್ನೇಹವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಬಹುಶಃ ಇದಕ್ಕಾಗಿಯೇ ಈ ಗಾದೆಮಾತು ಚಲಾವಣೆಗೆ ಬಂದಿರಬಹುದು ಅನ್ನಿಸುತ್ತೆ.

Kannada proverb – Saala kottu sneha kalakondange ( Give loan and lose the friendship).

Giving loan to a friend is a very tricky issue. When a friend asks for a loan it is very difficult to say ‘No’. But when the time comes to return the loan and if the friend is not prompt enough to give it back, the lender is in a catch-22 situation. If the asks for repay of the loan, the friend will be annoyed and the friendship may end. On the other hand, if the lender does not ask for the money he will lose the money. So, this proverb has taken birth.
